Skomer Sea Kayaking Weekend

(1 customer review)

£249.00

A 3 day trip, with a crossing to see the puffins.

Description

A 3 day trip of enjoyable sea paddling exploring different sections of the coastline, with the main aim being to get across to Skomer to visit the enigmatic puffins.

The first day will be a warm up day, looking at improving your sea paddling skills, boat handling and basic trip planning (weather, tides and tidal streams etc). The next 2 days offer us the chance to pick the best conditions for the crossing, and to do another coastal paddle. All the routes we use offer great scenery and lots of interesting marine life, and alternatives if the wind is strong.

This course is non-residential. We will be camping from the Thursday night at West Hook Farm. You are welcome to join us if you like, or to make your own arrangements if you'd prefer more civilised sleeping! There are plenty of accommodation options nearby.

This course is for you if: You have good flat water kayaking skills, and are happy capsizing and would like to push yourself to the next level. It's especially for those who feel "the pull of the sea" – the desire for fresh, sea air and the fun adventure of being guided along rugged coastlines that meet the mighty sea. If you aren't sure just give us a call for a chat.

Cost:

£249 (this includes use of one of our sea kayaks and equipment)

Discounts for those with their own boats can be considered. Please contact us so we can assure suitability of your boat and if we're able to offer a discount.

My husband and I have just finished a 3 day Sea Kayaking course near Martin’s Haven, Pembrokeshire i.e. SKOMER!!. This was led by Leam Boat Centre’s Matt Bishop, supported by Dave Karlinski, and team member Jordan Palmer. A fabulous paddle from Dale on Day 1 with some skills being developed on the swells at St Anne’s Head. Day 2 – well, what can I say. We are now part of the privileged few who have paddled from Martin’s Haven across to Skomer Island AND landed on it (with permission of the trust). In doing so we tested our comfort zone by crossing a challenging though manageable Jack Sound tidal race. Had a 3 hour stop over walking around the island, meeting the various birdlife and in particular falling in love with the 100s of Puffins who paraded around us. Then back home again with a supporting tide. A truly wonderful experience. Day 3 was a more relaxed paddle to Musselwick Beach which is only accessible by sea and a great aspect for lunch. We ended the trip tired but exhilarated and grateful to have made new friends and learned new skills. All of us were confident in Matt and Dave’s ability to lead and coach us, guiding us in navigation and paddling skills, ensuring our safety and making sure we all achieved and grew in our abilities. What an experience – these well planned trips are highly recommended.
