A wonderful weekend of paddling through the picturesque Wye Valley! This is an introduction to over night expeditioning.
The weekend is set up so that participants can camp on saturday night at YHA Wye Valley or book a room
Ross on Wye to Monmouth has a total distance of 33km (20.5 miles) and will provide a fantastic challenge!
Kit to bring:
Clothing: suitable for the time of year and the weather:
In warm weather, paddle in basic sports clothing e.g. shorts and t-shirts (football type shirts or any type of outdoor wicking clothing is ideal as they don’t hold moisture). For cooler days add a fleece (or even 2!), waterproof trousers are handy if it’s cold or wet.
Footwear: Preferably wetsuit shoes/boots but old sandals or trainers will do fine.
Packed Lunch: Bring a packed lunch (and a bit of spare food too) in a waterproof container (Tupperware boxes are ideal). We will be having lunch on the river bank. Bring a flask if it is cold, and plenty of water on a hot day.
Change of clothes for afterwards: Whatever you wear you will at least get damp (if not soaked!) while paddling so you need to bring a towel and change of clothing and shoes to go home in, which you leave in the vehicle.
Extras: Sun cream, sun hat and sunglasses are advisable for sunny days. A warm hat is a good idea for colder weather. If you wear glasses or sunglasses it’s a good idea to secure them with elastic or string (neoprene spec-bands are available to buy at the centre).
Sleeping Gear: You will need to sort your own accommodation, either camping or booking rooms along the way. You will need to carry all kit you bring yourself, so not over packing is crucial! If you’re camping, you will need tents and sleeping equipment (Sleeping mat, Sleeping bag ect.)
Kit we provide
Board, paddle, helmet and waterproof paddle tops if required.
If you are bringing any of your own kit please let us know.
